Nature camps are being organized by the Kerala Government Forest Department,

Guide lines for nature camp\

Half day, one day, two day and three day nature camps are being organized by the Kerala Forest Department, as per the guidelines.

Maximum number of participants for the nature camp should be limited as 40, including staff. 

The applicant will be informed of the date and time of the nature camp allotted to them by the concerned officer.

The team has to reach the site in time with necessary preparations for the camp which will include educational classes, film shows and trekking to the forests.

416 year old, King`s palace- owned and maintained by Government of Kerala

Padmanabhapuram is the former capital city of the erstwhile Hindu Kingdom of Travancore.The palace was constructed around 1601 AD by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal who ruled Venad between 1592 and 1609. It is owned and maintained by the Government Of Kerala

The Padamnabhapuram Palace complex has several other interesting features:

• The palace is located near Thuckalay, Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu state but administered by the Government of Kerala state.
• The clock tower in the palace complex has a 300-year-old clock, which still keeps time.
• A big hall now bare, which can accommodate around 1000 guests, and where ceremonial feasts were held, on auspicious occasions.
• A secret passage, now blocked, through which the king, his immediate family members, and their entourage could escape to another palace, located several kilometers away in the event of any emergency. Name of this palace is Charottu kottaram.
• A flight of steps leads to a bathing pond, which has lost its freshness due to neglect and years of disuse.
• The palace complex also has a section of curios and several interesting objects:
• An entire room filled with old Chinese jars, all gifts by Chinese merchants.
• A variety of weapons (which were actually used in warfare), including swords and daggers.
• Brass lamps, wood and stone sculpture, a variety of furniture and large mirrors made of polished metal.
• A gallery of paintings depicting incidents from the history of Travancore.
• A wooden cot made of up to 64 wooden pieces of a variety of medicinal tree trunks
• Polished stone cot, meant for cool effect

Thousands of men dressed up as women and offering prayers to the Goddess.. Kottankulangara temple, kollam

The famous Chamayavilakku is a unique festival which is held at the Kottankulangara Sree Devi Temple, Chavara near Kollam, Kerala where thousands of men irrespective of their religious faith dressed up as women offered prayers to the Goddess Bhagavathy, the deity of the Temple which is believed as 'Swayam Bhoo'(Self Origin). This famous temple is the only temple in Kerala having no roof the sanctum sanctorum. The uniqueness of this temple is that the boys and girls dress themselves as girls and ladies to hold the traditional temple lamp.
Believers from other States are also participating in this famous festival. Recently several foreigners are also attending this famous traditional festival

The Jewish synagogue in KERALA

The Jewish synagogue , the oldest in the Commonwealth, was built by the Jewish community of Cochin., KERALA.  In 1662, it was destroyed by the Portguese and then reconstructed, years later, by the Dutch. 

Visiting time
The synagogue is open every day except Fridays, Saturdays and Jewish holidays. 
Timings: forenoon - 10 am to 12 noon; afternoon - 3 pm to 5 pm.
Visitors are expected to enter the synagogue barefoot.

Hill Palace Museum, Thripunithura

Built in 1865, the palace complex consists of 49 buildings in the traditional architectural style of Kerala, sprawled over 52 acres of beautifully landscaped terraced land which houses a deer park and facilities for horse riding. Numerous species of flora including rare medicinal plants grow here. On display in the full-fledged Ethno-archaeological museum are oil-paintings, murals, sculptures in stone and manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, belongings of the Kochi royal family and royal furniture including the simhasana (throne).
Also exhibited are over 200 antique pieces of pottery and ceramic vases from Japan and China, Kudakkallu (tomb stone), Thoppikkallu (hood stone), menhirs, granite, laterite memorials, rock-cut weapons from the Stone Age, wooden temple models, plaster cast models of objects from Mohenjodaro and Harappa of the Indus Valley Civilisation. The museum also houses a gallery of contemporary art.
